MATCH PREVIEW | Reserves travel to Hull this Friday

With four fixtures remaining in the first half of the Reserves season, Leeds Rhinos and Hull FC meet at the University of Hull on Friday night looking to secure valuable league points, kick off 7.30pm.

The race for a top-six spot is truly on as a handful of clubs remain in the fight for a chance to play for a potential Grand Final in September, headed up by the current leaders and unbeaten Wigan Warriors. Behind second-placed Wakefield and Warrington in third, Leeds' mid-season revival has put the Rhinos in a strong position to continue their title retention as they enter this week with four wins in their last five outings. High scoring wins over Leigh, Bradford and Huddersfield see Chev Walker's run as the competition's highest scoring side with 316 points in total - led by 13 tries for winger Riley Lumb who has only failed to score in two games for the Reserves in 2026.

Before suffering a first-half injury against London last time out, outside back Oscar Brown was chasing down Lumb's scoring effort with 11 tries in six games, whilst members of last year's Final winning outfit Joe Diskin, Harley Thomas and 2026 signing Ethan O'Neill chase closely behind. Thomas also has 70 total points in a stellar year so far with 25 goals.

Friday sees the Rhinos take on a Hull side that they have struggled against in the Reserves competition since it returned in 2022. Out of four meetings, Hull have come away victorious three times with a 26-22 result in 2022, a 26-18 win in 2024 and a close 18-16 scoreline in 2025 as they were the only side to beat Leeds last year. Leeds' sole win came in 2023 when two tries from Luis Roberts and Jack Sinfield led a 38-18 win for the Rhinos against the black and whites.

Hull currently occupies fifth place in the 2026 standings - just one point behind the Rhinos - but Danny Houghton's side have a favourable run of fixtures ahead of them.

Under new head coach Houghton, the Black and Whites only suffered losses to competition leaders Wakefield and Warrington in the early rounds as they posted winning results against London, St Helens and derby rivals Hull KR in a 26-10 result (their fourth derby win in the competition since 2022). After closing the month of April with a 58-22 result over Bradford, which saw Callum Kemp lead the scoring with a hat trick, Hull were on the wrong end of the result last weekend as they lost out 26-10 at the hands of Wigan - a result they look to overturn on Friday against the Rhinos.
